One of the world’s most beloved fairy tales is also one of the world’s most well known ballets. The score was composed in 1890 by Pëtr Il’ič Čajkovskij, who is famous for ballets such as The Nutcracker and Swan Lake.

As you may know, the ballet is the story of Princess Aurora and how an evil witch cursed her to die by the prick of spindle on her 16th birthday. Fortunately, the newborn princess had a good fairy to protect her. Aurora would only sleep for 100 years instead of die from the curse.

Later, Prince Désiré meets the good fairy in the forest at the end of the 100 year curse. She brings him to the princess to awaken her from her sleep with true love’s kiss. The couple is then married with a royal wedding, with many fairy tale characters in attendance, such as Puss in Boots and Little Red Riding Hood. And they lived happily ever after…
