Enjoy the unique experience of Henry Purcell’s English language opera, Dido & Aeneas, at Rome’s historical opera house. You will be able to follow along with the lyrics written above the stage.

 

Dido & Aeneas retells the story of Dido, Queen of Carthage, and Aeneas, Trojan hero, from Virgil’s Aeneid. The opera explores themes of love and politics as Dido tries to reconcile whether her monarchy is compatible with her love for Aeneas. Meanwhile, the evil sorceress works behind the scenes to tear the lovers apart. Will Aeneas fall for the sorceress’s evil trick?
