The Monterano Nature Reserve, established in 1988, protects one of the most representative and intact corners of the Roman Tuscia, between the Tolfa Mountains and the Sabatini Mountains.

The 1000-acres Nature Reserve encloses a lot of both naturalistic and historical-archaeological beauties such as the ruins of ancient Monterano where various films have been set.

The uniqueness of this place is the presence of watercourses, grazing areas, volcanic forests, hillsides, Roman aqueducts, ruins and sulphate (acid sulphate soil).
