To celebrate the arrival of Spring, JCU we will take you to some of the most beautiful and characteristic cities of this region: Pisa, Lucca, Livorno and Volterra. The region of Tuscany, known as the land of art and history, consists of its marvelous landscapes that were born through the brushstrokes of a sublime artist. A region that will be worth visiting while spending your time here in Italy, admiring all its assets of beauty and culture. This is the mentally that we will maintain prior and during our departure.We not only will be travellers and spectators but also part of the atmosphere. We will attend an art workshop organized by local artists. A painter will put his own practices into action, while a musician hugs his sounds of antique music played by the Tibetan bells.
Pisa is undoubtedly one of the main tourist attractions of Tuscany. Parted by the Arno River, Pisa is composed of four historical neighborhoods which used to fight each other in ancient times. We will have the chance to walk the streets of the city and discover that, in addition to the famous one, there are also other leaning towers scattered around the city center such as the bell tower of St. Nicola and the bell tower of St. Michele degli Scalzi.
Lucca endears itself to everyone who visits. Embraced by imposing Renaissance walls, its cobbled streets, handsome piazzas and shady promenades make it a perfect destination while in Tuscany. This enchanting city will host us for the night, sharing with us its unique charm.
Livorno was once described as “a brand new little town, so pretty and handy as to fit in a tobacco box.” Today what remains of that ‘pretty’ town lies between the sea and the New Fortress. It’s full of small picturesque canals, built in the 17th century using Venetian methods of reclaiming land from the sea, and is known as “New Venice”. At the heart of this quarter stands the Church of Santa Caterina with its octagonal, heavily frescoed dome. Heading to the Terrazza Mascagni is the perfect way to witness the Mediterranean sea and breathe some pure air.
Our trip ends with a visit to Volterra, a characteristic and small village that will add a special shade to our Tuscan experience. This small, medieval town has a fascinating and potent story, which dates back to the Etruscan era and reaches its peak until the 4th and 6th centuries B.C. The important cathedral and palace of priors encounter the framings of the center, surrounded by the bucolic landscape reigns.
