Tosca, composed by Giacomo Puccini in 1900, is known for its powerful score and the creativity of its orchestration.

The backdrop of this tragic opera is the political unrest between the Papacy, French under Napoleon, and the Kingdom of Naples in Rome in 1800. Cesare Angelotti, a former politician of the Roman Republic, is an escaped political prisoner on the run and hiding from the Chief of Police, Scarpia. The artist, Mario Cavaradossi, helps him, which puts himself in danger. Tosca, Mario’s lover, tries to help him out of the situation by agreeing to Scarpia’s indecent proposals, but the tragic ending of their love story is unavoidable.
