An exciting weekend that is dedicated to the discovery of the legendary predator. Three days in the Abruzzo National Park where the stories of the coexistence between wolves and humans have been handed down for generations, and where today, we still share the same territory. We will learn about this mighty predator through the stories of the past as well as the latest scientific knowledge about their biology. We will also drive along the same paths that the wolves usually go to reaffirm their territory and track down their prey, looking for signs of their presence.
PROGRAM:
DAY 1 – Friday, Feb 24th
12:30 PM Departure from John Cabot University (Tiber Campus)
3:30 PM Arrival at Civitella Alfedena and check in at the Hotel 4 Camosci
4:00 PM Visit of the old town and of the wildlife area of the Wolf and the Lynx
5:30 PM Welcome Reception with typical products of Abruzzo - Aperitivo
8:30 PM Dinner at a typical restaurant
DAY 2 – Saturday, Feb. 25th
08:00 AM Breakfast
09:00 AM – 4:30 PM Meeting with the guide Pietro Santucci (http://www.labetullaonline.com/) and going on a hike with snowshoes on the wolf trails in “Val di Rose.” Packed Lunch is included.
This is one of the most beautiful hiking tours, and will take you around the National Park of Abruzzo, which is also home to Abruzzo’s Chamois and Golden Eagle. The route winds through beech forests, clearings and glacial valleys until you reach the ridge, which is at an altitude of 2,000 meters. The way back is through a different route, which will bring the group to Civitella Alfedena. You are sure to see herds of chamois of Abruzzo, almost guaranteed sightings of herds of deer, the possibility sighting of the Apennine wolf, eagle, Marsicano brown bear, wild boar, and microfauna
4:30PM Return to Hotel and free time
7.30 PM Dinner and if you want a night out snowshoeing in the woods
10:00 PM Back to the Hotel
DAY 3 – Sunday, Feb. 26th
07:00 AM Breakfast
08:00 AM Departure to Ski Resort at Ovindoli.
Free Time and Various Activities *extra costs may apply.
Packed Lunch is included.
04:00 PM Bus leaves to return to Rome

What Equipment will you need?
Backpack, hiking boots, garments suitable for low temperature (between 5°C and 10°C), rain jacket.
Optional Equipment: Camera, flashlight, binoculars.
