VENETO WEEKEND TRIP 2

Date from: Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Date to: Wednesday, March 14, 2012

DATE:

A weekend trip to explore northern Italy in three of the most beautiful and charming cities: Padua, Venice, and Verona.

The city of Padua is picturesque, with a dense network of arcaded streets that open into large squares, and many bridges crossing the various branches of the river Bacchiglione, which once surrounded the ancient walls like a moat. The city is also known as the setting for most of the action in Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.

The Republic of Venice was a major maritime power during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and a staging area for the Crusades and the Battle of Lepanto, as well as a very important center of commerce (especially silk, grain and spice trade) and art in the 13th century up to the end of the 17th century. Venice has played an important role in the history of symphonic and opera music and is the birthplace of Antonio Vivaldi.

Verona is one of the main tourist destinations in northern Italy, thanks to its artistic heritage, several annual fairs, shows, and operas, such as the lyrical season in the Arena, the ancient amphitheatre built by the Romans. Romeo and Juliet certainly found love in this city. It has been awarded world heritage site status by UNESCO because of its urban structure and architecture. Verona is definitely worth a visit!
