Terminillo is the mountain of Rome, with its four current peaks (Terminillo, Terminilletto, Terminillucio and Monte Elefante) told by Virgil in his "TETRICAE HORRENTES RUPES" and Varrone in the "GURGURES ALTI MONTES". The climb to Monte Terminillo, from the Sebastiani Hut, opens slowly on the South-West side, opening the panorama towards Rome and towards the sea.
From its summit you can see the Abruzzo Mountains, the highest in the Appennines, the Gran Sasso and the Majella.
The name Terminillo, from Termine which is Italian for ending, is due to the fact that the mountain marked the border between the Papal States and the Kingdom of Naples.
It's a relatively simple climb with breathtaking views, while the descent, called direct, is very steep and fast.
