Rome is an infinite cradle of surprising monuments. One of these is the Mosque. With an area of 30,000 m², it is the largest mosque in Europe and the seat of the Italian Islamic Cultural Centre. It is located in the Acqua Acetosa area, at the foot of the Monti Parioli, where the two rivers of Rome (Tiber and Aniene) meet. Financed by Faisal of Saudi Arabia, head of the Saudi royal family and inaugurated in 1995, it took more than ten years to build. The Mosque is in harmony with the rest of the city, from which it emerges without contrast thanks to the superb mastery of the architects Paolo Portoghesi, Vittorio Gigliotti and Sami Mousawai.

We will visit this Temple with a guide and immerse ourselves in a Holy space, where the perfect mix between modern structural design and omnipresent curves create a play of colors and shadow. The largest curve resembles the shape of a forest while the ubiquitous palm-shaped columns represent the connection between Allah and the single devotee. The use of materials like travertino and cotto generate typically roman colors and emphasizes the key role of light, following the repeated Koranic topic: Allah is light.

After the guided tour of the Mosque, we will head towards Villa Ada to explore breathtaking parts of the richest park of Rome from the standpoint of the fauna. The magical and quiet atmosphere of this lush green park will be the perfect place where to recollect our thoughts on the Mosque visit.
