This 4 act opera, set in Paris, was composed by the most famous Giacomo Puccini and first performed in 1896.

The first two acts set the stage by focusing on the friendship between Rodolfo, Marcello, Schaunard, and Colline as well as the growing love between two couples Rodolfo and Mimì and Marcello and Musetta.

Unfortunately, we discover in act 3 that Mimì is quite ill with “consumption”, or tuberculosis, and Rodolfo has faked being unkind to her in order to encourage her to find a financially stable suitor better able to provide medical assistance for her. Meanwhile, Marcello and Musetta also find their relationship tested by Musetta’s flirtatious behavior.

In the final act, we discover that both Mimì and Musetta have found other wealthy lovers to take care of them. But when Mimì’s consumption takes a turn for the worst, she begs Musetta to take her to Rodolfo who comforts her as she dies.
