A weekend trip to explore northern Italy in three of the most beautiful and charming cities: Venice, Verona, and Padua.

The Republic of Venice was a major maritime power during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and a staging area for the Crusades and the Battle of Lepanto, as well as a very important center of commerce (especially silk, grain and spice trade) and art in the 13th century up to the end of the 17th century. Venice has played an important role in the history of symphonic and opera music and is the birthplace of Antonio Vivaldi.

Verona is one of the main tourist destinations in northern Italy, thanks to its artistic heritage, several annual fairs, shows, and operas, such as the lyrical season in the Arena, the ancient amphitheater built by the Romans. It is also home to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. It has been awarded world heritage site status by UNESCO because of its urban structure and architecture. Verona is definitely worth a visit!

The city of Padua is picturesque, with a dense network of arcaded streets that open into large squares, and many bridges crossing the various branches of the river Bacchiglione, which once surrounded the ancient walls like a moat. The city is also the setting for another of Shakespeare's masterpieces, The Taming of the Shrew.
