Montereale is a town in the province of L'Aquila, in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The city is 948 meters above the sea level and is located inside the natural park known as the "Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga" National Park. The park contains more than two thousand plant species, some of which are only found in this area, such as Leontopodium alpinum. It is also home to fauna such as the Abruzzo chamois  as well as wolves, roe deer, wildcats, and wild boars. Note worthy birds include the Golden Eagle, the White-backed Woodpecker, the Common Buzzardand and the Peregrine Falcon.
In the local area you can also visit the Abbey della Madonna in Pantanis, Monastery of San Leonardo, Convents of San Francesco and Santa Chiara,  as well as Churches of Beato Andrea and Santa Maria in Assunta.
On Saturday we will be hiking around the beautiful mountains of Montereale and trekking around the enchanted Forest of Patrignone. On Sunday, we will be visiting a local farm.
