MIDTERM EXAM The Mid-term iexam ncludes short and longer answers. Slides identification may be part of the exam. Exam questions may or may not be weighted differently. Regardless, the totality of points for each exam is 100. 100 points equal to A. See the included grade rubric to see the number to letter grade equivalence. The exam is based on readings, lectures and information delivered in class and during fieldwork. The midterm covers information from class 1 up to the class before the exam. The professor returns the midterm the session following the exam. If a student is absent and cannot get the midterm and term paper on that day, it is his\her responsibility to remind the professor to bring it back the next class. 30%
Final Exam The Final exam includes short and longer answers. Slides identification may be part of the exam. Exam questions may or may not be weighted differently. Regardless, the totality of points for each exam is 100. 100 points equal to A. See the included grade rubric to see the number to letter grade equivalence. The Final exam is based on readings, lectures and information delivered in class and during fieldwork. The Final exam is not cumulative. This means that the Final exam cover information discussed from the class after the midterm to the last class before the Final exam. 30%
Term PaperThe Term Paper is a 2000 words analytical paper on a topic chosen by the instructor. The student chooses a topic on a list of three topics given at the beginning of the course. See the term papaer rubric on the class website for specific about the content and format of the paper.30%
ParticipationShowing up for class or on time for the field visits grants the student a C in the final participation grade. To earn full participation the student has to actively participate. This means asking questions relevant to the issue at hand, answering when prompted by the professor, bringing into the discussion relevant points, experiences and whatever extra information generate further reflection on the topic discussed at the moment. Navigating under the radar (i.e. trying to stay invisible to the professor and to the rest of the class) is not a behavior that will help student gain full participation. 10%

ACADEMIC HONESTY
As stated in the university catalog, any student who commits an act of academic dishonesty will receive a failing grade on the work in which the dishonesty occurred. In addition, acts of academic dishonesty, irrespective of the weight of the assignment, may result in the student receiving a failing grade in the course. Instances of academic dishonesty will be reported to the Dean of Academic Affairs. A student who is reported twice for academic dishonesty is subject to summary dismissal from the University. In such a case, the Academic Council will then make a recommendation to the President, who will make the final decision.
