 <p><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: times new roman;">Assignments will take the form of written responses to the readings and assigned outings and other homework assignments to be done in the sketchbook. Writing assignments will include some combination of microfiction pieces, a short story, short nonfiction sketches, a longer reflective essay or memoir, and two or more poems. All of the major prose and poetry assignments will be revised and included in the final portfolio along with a process analysis of each piece. The sketchbooks will also be presented and graded. Lastly, students will be required to give written and oral feedback (or critique) on the work of their peers. Detailed guidelines for each assignment will be handed out in class.<br /> </span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: times new roman;">The following is a summary of the assessment method:&nbsp; Students will be assessed on preparedness &amp; participation (15%), homework assignments &amp; journal (15 %) conscientiousness of self-editing (15%), criticism/editing of classmates' work (15%), and the final portfolio (40%).</span> </p>

ACADEMIC HONESTY
As stated in the university catalog, any student who commits an act of academic dishonesty will receive a failing grade on the work in which the dishonesty occurred. In addition, acts of academic dishonesty, irrespective of the weight of the assignment, may result in the student receiving a failing grade in the course. Instances of academic dishonesty will be reported to the Dean of Academic Affairs. A student who is reported twice for academic dishonesty is subject to summary dismissal from the University. In such a case, the Academic Council will then make a recommendation to the President, who will make the final decision.
