COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is intended to give the student the knowledge to use microcomputer systems in their most commonly used applications.
SUMMARY OF COURSE CONTENT:
  The elements of Microcomputer Systems, what they can and cannot do, Management Information Systems, History of Computers. Microcomputer Systems architecture and hardware. Operating Systems: Windows XP. Windows Environment, Usage of mouse, Applications Setup, Editing files, MS-DOS Commands, Batch Files. Word Processing: basic and advanced commands. Spreadsheets: Excel, Business Graphics, Macro Programming. Integration between software packages.Hardware and  Software evaluation.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the end of the course the student will be able to:

Identify and use appropriate software for word-processing and spreadsheet applications.

Feel comfortable using the basic features of Windows Operating System and of the Office application packages.

Define, design and program a small computerized Information System.

Choose appropriate hardware and use different equipment.

-ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Attendance is compulsory. This because all the lessons will be held in the computer laboratory and will be a combination of theory and practice. Students that will fail to attend at least 8 lessons out of 10 will get an "F" grade.
ACADEMIC HONESTY
As stated in the university catalog, any student who commits an act of academic dishonesty will receive a failing grade on the work in which the dishonesty occurred. In addition, acts of academic dishonesty, irrespective of the weight of the assignment, may result in the student receiving a failing grade in the course. Instances of academic dishonesty will be reported to the Dean of Academic Affairs. A student who is reported twice for academic dishonesty is subject to summary dismissal from the University. In such a case, the Academic Council will then make a recommendation to the President, who will make the final decision.

  4. Subdirectories: MD, CD, RD. Disk commands: DIR, COPY, FORMAT, DISKCOPY, DEL. System configuration.
  5. Introduction to Word Processing. Creating and editing text.
  6. Word Processing: editing, saving/recalling, blocks, copy/remove, find/replace, printing. Checking document.
  7. Formatting text. Style settings. Templates.
  8. More on printing and printers, control codes. Advanced features in WP: Tables and Graphics.
  9. Spreadsheet: Introduction. The screen. Creating and Editing cells. Titles. Making calculations. Constants and Variables. Block commands.
  10. Formulas. Absolute and Relative Cell addressing. IF, $, AND, OR
