COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Management issues related to the procurement and allocation of resources in the production of goods and services in order to meet organizational goals. Topics covered include product and process design, facility size, location and layout, quality management, production planning and control.
SUMMARY OF COURSE CONTENT:

This course is structured to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of key concepts, principles, and tools in the field of Operations Management. It is divided into three core sections:

  1. Gaining a foundational understanding of operations.
  2. Learning how to design operational systems.
  3. Managing and controlling operations effectively.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:

This course aims to prepare students to tackle operational challenges with confidence and competence while understanding the broader implications of their decisions on organizational performance.

The primary objectives of the course are to:

  1. Enable students to apply essential Operations Management concepts, principles, tools, and techniques to real-world scenarios in both manufacturing and service industries.
  2. Highlight the strategic role of Operations Management as a core function for achieving competitive advantage.
  3. Demonstrate how innovation, process change, and effective implementation are critical for fostering competition.
  4. Explore the interconnectedness of Operations Management with other business functions and its broader impact on organizational success.
  5. Develop students' analytical skills for addressing complex operational decisions.
  6. Provide strategies for analyzing processes to enhance quality and efficiency.
  7. Introduce methodologies for evaluating and managing the value chain effectively.

Discussions reflect the student’s own arguments and are not simply a repetition of standard lecture andreference material. -ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS AND EXAMINATION POLICY
Class attendance is strongly encouraged as the majority of the content of the course is covered in classes.
After 2 unexcused absences, the students will lose 1 percentage points in the final grade, beyond 8 unexcusedabsences, studentswill be unable to sit in the finalexam.
The participation to the group projects and the mid-term exam is mandatory, in case of unexcused absence, students will loseall the points of the graded exercise.
ACADEMIC HONESTY
As stated in the university catalog, any student who commits an act of academic dishonesty will receive a failing grade on the work in which the dishonesty occurred. In addition, acts of academic dishonesty, irrespective of the weight of the assignment, may result in the student receiving a failing grade in the course. Instances of academic dishonesty will be reported to the Dean of Academic Affairs. A student who is reported twice for academic dishonesty is subject to summary dismissal from the University. In such a case, the Academic Council will then make a recommendation to the President, who will make the final decision.
