COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course is designed to expand student’s knowledge in the area of supply chain management by applying analytical methodologies and information technology. Supply chains are concerned with the efficient integration of suppliers, factories, warehouses, and stores so that products are supplied to customers in the right quantity and at the right time, while satisfying customer service level requirements at minimum cost. While many firms focus on supply chain management (SCM) as a source of competitive advantage, deficiencies in the SC may result in a downgrade of competitiveness.
SUMMARY OF COURSE CONTENT:

The course is designed to provide a solid base of knowledge in terms of concepts, principles and tools in the field of Supply Chain Management. The course is organized in seven main sections:

  • SC strategy

  • Demand Management

  • SC Planning

  • Designing the supply chain network

  • Coordination along a supply chain

  • SC risk management

  • SC sustainability

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

To understand that supply chain management is fundamental to improving efficiency, competitiveness and customer satisfaction.

 To provide students with a methodology for designing and analysing supply chains.

 To offer students mathematical techniques for making optimal decision regarding transportation, partnerships, and inventory across the supply chain

 To make students aware and knowledgeable of the impact of IT on supply chains as well as of the last trends about risk management and sustainability

Mid-term examThe Mid-Term Exam will take place half way through the course and it will concern all the topics covered up to that point. No make-up exams will be given. A missed exam will be calculated as zero. Exceptions are made if the student presents an official excuse for the absence from the Dean’s Office. Rules of the exams: no mobile phones are allowed, no computers or other electronic tools are allowed. When calculators are needed, the professor will tell the students in advance to bring them for the exam. Their usage is personal and they cannot be shared during the exam. There are no make-up or grade improvement projects in this course35%
Final examThe Final Exam will encompass the topics covered after the mid-term exam. No make-up exams will be given. A missed exam will be calculated as zero. AssignmentsStudents will work on five assignments referred to real companies during the semester. They will be asked to develop a document that will be evaluated. The guidelines and the instructions for the project will be handed to the students in advance. The work must be sent through email within the assigned deadline. All works coming later than the deadline will be evaluated as zero, unless prior arrangements are made with the professor.20%
Class ParticipationIt is strongly recommended that students attend all scheduled classes in order to successfully pass the exams. Class participation grades are determined for a 5% by the attendance to the course classes (no more than 3 absences are allowed) and for the other 5% by the contribution of the student to class discussion.10%

-ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Students are allowed three absences during the semester, for whatever reason. There is no need to explain or justify these three absences and they will have no effect on the final grade. However, every additional absence after that will aftect the class participation grade.

You cannot make-up a major exam (midterm or final) without the permission of the Dean’s Office. The Dean’s Office will grant such permission only when the absence was caused by a serious impediment, such as a documented illness, hospitalization or death in the immediate family (in which you must attend the funeral) or other situations of similar gravity. Absences due to other meaningful conflicts, such as job interviews, family celebrations, travel difficulties, student misunderstandings or personal convenience, will not be excused. Students who will be absent from a major exam must notify the Dean’s Office prior to that exam. Absences from class due to the observance of a religious holiday will normally be excused. Individual students who will have to miss class to observe a religious holiday should notify the instructor by the end of the Add/Drop period to make prior arrangements for making up any work that will be missed.

ACADEMIC HONESTY
As stated in the university catalog, any student who commits an act of academic dishonesty will receive a failing grade on the work in which the dishonesty occurred. In addition, acts of academic dishonesty, irrespective of the weight of the assignment, may result in the student receiving a failing grade in the course. Instances of academic dishonesty will be reported to the Dean of Academic Affairs. A student who is reported twice for academic dishonesty is subject to summary dismissal from the University. In such a case, the Academic Council will then make a recommendation to the President, who will make the final decision.
